Gospel – 7/28/20 – Matthew 13:36-43

Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house.
His disciples approached him and said,
“Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man,
the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom.
The weeds are the children of the Evil One,
and the enemy who sows them is the Devil.
The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire,
so will it be at the end of the age.
The Son of Man will send his angels,
and they will collect out of his Kingdom
all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
They will throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine like the sun
in the Kingdom of their Father.
Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

As I watch the news coming out of the large cities with all the problems.with the violence of ANTIFA, the unrest in the smaller communities, the subversive groups like BLM, I can’t help but hearken back to this Gospel.

Growing up on a farm with my dad being a frustrated farmer (he would love nothing more than to spend hours a day on his tractors) and seeing the plants grow up from nothing, only to be strangled by the weeds coming up later – is today’s World.

Religion has been around for a very long time. Law Enforcement has been around for a very long time.

Today we struggle with how to deal with people who no longer know religion in any form.

Actually, that’s not so. They worship at the altar of Self. Everything is looked at through the prism of “Me”.

The people who give selflessly to others are being smothered out by the evil of self interest.

Jesus says we don’t pull them up now lest we disturb the roots of the good people. Instead, when the time comes to harvest, the good fruits will be gathered and the weeds left to be gathered and burned.

Whoever has ears ought to hear.

At least that’s what I heard Him say…
