Gospel – December 13, 2019 – Matthew 11:16-19

Jesus said to the crowds:
“To what shall I compare this generation?
It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another,
‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance,
we sang a dirge but you did not mourn.’
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said,
‘He is possessed by a demon.’
The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said,
‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
But wisdom is vindicated by her works.”

Reading this reminds me of how difficult it is to please some people. We want what we want. Our outlook is strictly governed by our current circumstances. Many times that leads us to see things through a very narrow lens.

Today Jesus compares us to children – immature in our faith and wanting God to mold himself to our desires at any one time.

But God does not change for us. He is what he has been since before time began. God is the pillar we should all attach ourselves to.

And then in time Lady Wisdom will lead us to that understanding of what God has been trying to tell us through all his prophets and even his Son – that God the Father created us for good through his love.

All we have to do is grow up and stop complaining.

At least that’s what I heard Him say…
